What a weekend, glorious sunshine and I was out working in it the whole weekend. Saturday included a visit to Brentford v Wolves, whilst Guildford City hosted & beat Horley Town, Sunday was spent mostly at Wings & Wheels, until to sunburned to sit comfortably in the sun any more, then today (bank holiday Monday) I had a food festival, a sports day & Woking v Torquay United (with a sly 10 minutes at Godalming v Guildford City who won again). Now I am officially & completely & utterly knackered. So a cheeky couple of cold ones are probably in order.

A great win…
Guildford City after a win in the FA Cup, during the week, today met old rivals in the next round. It is seldom a bore draw in the league, & this was one that Guildford will look back with satisfaction, running out 4-0 winners, and reality it could and probably should have been a few more.
City were unstoppable on the day, and I don’t recall the City keeper being tested very often. The FA Cup draw for the next round takes place tomorrow (Monday) hopefully a good draw and a continued run would be good, for the club & the club’s coffers.
Disappointing Result
I was at Craven Cottage to cover Fulham v Sheffield Wednesday. Only one goal in it, unfortunately it was’t a Fulham goal. However at least it stayed dry. More football tomorrow as Guildford City play in the FA Cup.
Cracking Result
Guildford City had their FA Cup replay mid-week against Newport IoW FC and ran out 3-0 winners. Next up is Camberley Town on Sunday.
New Toy
Finally embracing the digital age, well the radio side at least. I would usually do the installation myself, but as the canbus needs updating in the Golf to prevent battery drain (a known fault apparently) I have decided to outsource the upgrade to a local company. Whilst at it I shall have them do the full installation, including DAB aerial.
Just need to acquire a VW MDI for iPod control now.
That’s it, no more spending
This year has been an expensive year, upgraded from the old EOS1D mkIV bodies, replaced all the glass, replaced flashguns, upgraded iPad, laptops & desktop machines, repaired a Quantum Turbo, serviced the studio kit, & the list goes on. So no more money is being spent on photographic equipment this year. Unless a Sigma 150-600 OS Sport comes up at an unbeatable price, or a Canon 400mm F2.8 or a 500mm F4 or…………
Feeling as Rough as a Badgers Arse…
Been feeling as rough as f*ck the last couple of days, hot/cold sweats, aches, blocked nose one minute, running then next… So seeing as the football season is well & truly upon us I thought it prudent to use the time to update the Photo Mechanic Code Replacement document for the Championship.
Just when you think it’s all over
Having upgraded & replaced just about everything in the kit bag over the last 12 months, the Quantum Turbo decides it’s time to stop working. I have ordered a replacement cell, which will be here tomorrow & with luck that will cure the problem, as I have no plans to replace the Quantum with the Quantum 3 (over £500) when I only use it occasionally.
Anyway it is a quite simple process, but a right royal pain in the arse, undoing the three screws was simple enough, and getting the control panel & electrics a bit of the way out was easy enough, however Quantum use a bit of industrial double sided tape to secure the battery to the case, obviously not anywhere that it is easy to reach or indeed obvious to spot.
Anyway a lot of swearing and the whole assembly is out of the box.
I can’t really complain, I have had the Quantum since some time in the early 2000s, and although it has been used 15 years between services can’t be too bad. I ordered the replacement battery from http://www.batterycompany.co.uk on Sunday night & it should be here tomorrow (Tuesday) pretty good service & cheap £22.00 including shipping.
** Update** Well that went well, all reassembled and working perfectly, with no left over bits, and no rattles either. Just a full recharge required.
Brentford v Nottingham Forest
Covered the Brentford game today, another goalfest, unfortunately even though t hey took the lead, they were unable to get all three points (actually they couldn’t manage a single point).
Wet & Dry & Wet Again
A day covering a bit of Cricket & Championship football, been wet so many times, however the new waterproof kit did the job (mostly) first job was Cricket in Chesham followed by Fulham v Norwich, In the end a draw seemed fair. Next football is Guildford City v Newport IoW in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
Can we please have some Summer now!!
Expensive Year
Finally got around to upgrading the last of my old lenses. The 70-200 F2.8L IS has now been replaced by the 70-200 F2.8L IS USM mkII.
