Big local derby today, Godalming Town FC v Guildford City FC. Both teams anxious to record their first win of the season. The form book sugggested that GCFC would have a slight advantage, having conceded fewer goals and scored more. Whereas Godalming had lost all three of their games this season.

However, Godalming Town’s home advantage and vocal support helped them to snick a 1-0 home victory. Bugger. Anyway the GCFC shot stopper can’t complain that there isn’t a photograph of him……

A wet bank holiday weekend, Well that was a surprise! It rained at the Guildford City FC home game against Yate Town FC at the Spectrum in Guildford.

Initially GCFC went 1-0 up. However Yate Town didn’t give up, and at one point ended up 1-3 up. GCFC pulled it back to 3-3 by the final whistle. A good point in a curiously refereed match.

Did I mention that it was wet, it pissed down relentlessly for the whole 90 minutes. It certainly tested the waterproofing on the old Billingham Bag, and my coat. In fact it was that bloody wet, I came off the pitch looking like a drowned rat, actually it was so wet that my fingers had gone all prune like.

First points on the scoreboard, hopefully GCFC can do better on Bank Holiday Monday against Godalming Town. Kick Off at 1500hrs.

The next home game that I will be covering is Guildford City FC v Yate Town at the Spectrum, Guildford on Saturday 24th August 2013 at 1500hrs. So kit is being charged, back up batteries replaced in the EOS1D, still going to be without the 300mm as it is booked in for a check up at Sigma on the 28th, as it front focuses like a mo’fo. Hopefully a better result this weekend.

After losing the first game of the season at Mangotsfield, Guildford City Football Club face Thatcham Town FC at their home ground (The Spectrum, in Guildford). This was the first time that I have photographed at the Spectrum, so didn’t know what to expect. As turns out it is a pretty impressive place, let down (from a fans point of view) is that the seating is a little way from the pitch (because the Spectrum is also an altheletics field). So an evening game, at a new ground, 1945hrs kick off… could be fun. The stadium lights are not anything like as powerful as the lighting that I was used to in the Premier League & Championship stadiums back when I regularly did footy 10 years ago. So the second half meant shooting 1600ISO, 1/320 sec @ F2.8, and still requiring a little tweeking.

Having not been particularly motivated over the past few….. well I don’t know how long it’s been, kinda lost count, it has been good to actually get the camera kit out and do some proper photography. I haven’t done football for a while so it is probably going to take a few games to get back into the swing of things. I become involved with the Guildford City Football Club, who play in the Calor Gas League Southern Division One South & West. Which is three promotions from the Conference League. The first game was away to Mangotsfield, (in between Bath & Bristol). A disappointing start to the season, being at the end of a 5-3 defeat. Although as this is a completely new team, new manager and a new league, it is probably not surprising that the team have not yet gelled, hopefully a few games under their belt will see their performances improve.

Guildford Stabbing

Guildford Murder PPUK015Heard on the grapevine that there was an ongoing Police incident at Cedar Way on the Bellfields estate, kit was launched into the boot of the car and away we go, by the time that I turn up the scene was being searched by the forensics teams from Surrey Police. Lots of rumours and speculation about who the victim was/wasn’t had/had not done. Anyway, pictures filed.
